CU-SeeMe
Last modified: Tuesday, October 14, 2003

A videoconferencing program that utilizes the Internet to transmit audio and video signals. There is a freeware version of CU-SeeMe developed at Cornell University. In June 2001, CU-SeeMe merged with First Virtual Communications, and has extended the point-to-point capabilities of the original CU-SeeMe application into a software multipoint control unit, known as Conference Server - for managing and provisioning audio, video and data communications. The original CU-SeeMe application utilized a communications technology called CU Protocol, which is still in use today.

(Webopedia thanks Edwin Thompson, Creative Services Manager, First Virtual Communications, for providing the updated definition of this term.)
